Cut as straight as a panel saw with the versatility of a portable saw. The Festool TS 75 EQ plunge saw has a multitude of uses, from fine carpentry to cutting spiral staircase steps; from rough timber to cutting out window frames in renovation work. The TS 75 is a larger saw with greater cut depth than the Festool TS 55 EQ. Portable circular saws often react unexpectedly. They wander off line and are subject to play in the guide. Its a quick way to ruin expensive material. But not the TS 75 EQ and included guide rail: the saw blade makes its cut absolutely straight and splinter-free. Perpendicular or even beveled, the choice is yours. As a plunge saw, it can start and end a cut accurately anywhere on the material. Equally important, on the TS 55 and TS 75, the saw blade and riving knife retracts into the housing, unlike on conventional pendulum-cover saws, where the cover retracts instead of the blade. This automatically means greater intrinsic safety. The Cleantec (CT) MINI and CT MIDI are Festools most portable mobile dust extractors. This unit is compact and lightweight, but has enough capacity for common jobsite tasks. The CT MIDI is slightly larger in size, but offers increased capacity for heavier on-site use. Sporting large wheels and double casters, this unit can easily negotiate obstacles in the shop or on the worksite. I love this saw. It's light, the cuts are laser-straight and ultra smooth, and there are so many adjustments and intuitive design features that I can't help but gaze lovingly across the room at my new TS 75 in it's systainer riding atop my new Midi vac.

The track is long...a little too long to conveniently crosscut a sheet of plywood, and not long enough to rip a full 8'. I'm purchasing two 55" tracks to join together to be more versatile. I'm not writing off the larger track...I'm sure it will make itself plenty useful.

Making the first cut with the saw is a little dicey (because you are actually cutting into the zero-clearance strip), but if you search the web there are instructional videos made by Festool showing how to do it correctly.

These both have very long cords and a long vac hose. The auto-on feature of the vac is very convenient -- left me wondering why more manufacturers don't offer this feature. The vac is actually labeled a dust extractor, which is fitting as that is it's best use. Don't expect to clean up anything too big, as large wood chips tend to get stuck in the hose -- use your shop vac for that. This excels when connected to any number of tools, sucking up nearly all wood dust and shavings (Festool is designed for excellent dust collection... but the effectiveness depends on the tool making the dust, not the vac. I hooked this up to my Makita 10" LS1013 sliding compound miter saw and it didn't collect much dust...I still had quite a bit to clean up afterwards) The Midi doesn't have a huge capacity, however, and I think it would fill up quickly if it was connected to a router or anything making huge amounts of shavings. The bags are very easy to change, and mine came with one loaded and one backup bag riding in it's own pocket on the back side of the vac.

If you don't have a festool or fein vac with the auto-on feature, get this set. I can't imagine using this saw without the dust collector. My first project was recessing a large iron grate in a hardwood floor. Even though the client had moved their rugs and furniture back in, I was able to cut perfect lines with no dust to speak of. If I was trying to do the same with a circ saw and a straight edge I would have had to bring in drops, place plastic over everything in the the work area, or set up a plastic temp wall. This setup made for a quick easy and painless project.

I haven't tried the Makita or Dewalt track saws, but I don't think I need to. I'm happy with the Festool and think you will be too.
