When you want a little MORE securety in a mailbox then just a flimsy tin box hanging on the outside wall, with NO locks. When you are pulling those credit cards that your bank had sent you, or maybe those box of checks you ordered, just sitting and waiting for someone to stop by and help themself too, makes you wonder why are you are taking that risk. I know I did, that is why I bought this model, the .188" or 3/16" thick walled one, that way the base ball bat won't leave it too badly damaged like those thin walled mailboxes I see driving down the road. Bought mine back in March of 2007, and here it is for sale on Amazon August-2012. As for the 5 years of ownership, I have had NO Problems with it. The daily use of the door has held up well, the paint is in GREAT shape, the flag still works like the day I bought it, and the key works the lock well. I thought by now the paint would have faded, but it hasn't. And after a good wash, it still looks as good as it did the first day I planted it in my front yard. I would recomend getting one of these, not only is it built to last, but it is built here in America.
