On January 24, 1923 P.J. Swanson and Chas. T. Lyons formed the Tire Mat and Bi-Products Company, Inc. to capitalize on the patent filed by P.J. Swanson for the invention of the tire-link mat. In July of 1924, Chas. T. Lyons, H.W. Bell and Howard R. Lyons formed a successor company called Durable Mat Company, Inc. and were shortly joined by C.L. Morris and Falcon Joslin, whom jointly comprised the management team that would established what is today Durable Corporation. Grand-Stand Beauty Barber mats are custom made and feature a long wearing rubber surface bonded to a resilient rubber foam base. Built-in beveled edge base adds an extra measure of safety and virtually eliminates tripping. The most comfortable cushion available to the beauty and barber market. We purchased two of these items (one gold, one red) to be runners in our garage which we entirely re-did with new paint, etc for our new car. They looked great, were the right dimensions and appeared to be the right product. Pictures of a motorcycle on one made me think that I found the right product. Seemed perfect to keep the garage floor pristine with the car running up on these and not marking the floor. They were on sale with Amazon so I ordered two. Before they arrived, I called the Durable Corporation to check to be sure they would last with our new car running up on them. To my surprise and to the Durable Corporation's credit, they said that they were not meant for that purpose and don't recommend it. The pictures shown with the motorcycle were for a trade show or display but not for everyday use. These mats arrived and we opened them to look at them and they are certainly are good looking and I would have loved to have them on the floor IF they would have done the job. It appears the shiny laminate on the top that makes it look so good might delaminate with use. So, regrettably we sealed up the boxes and returned these back. In fairness, I never gave them a test but from what the factory told me, they aren't the heavy duty, durable product we had desired.
