Ellipse Outdoor Semi-Flushmount by Hubbardton Forge Review

We purchased 8 Hubbardton Forge outdoor lights. In total it was a bit short of $5,000. Not cheap and expectations were high. Two of my neighbors have Hubbardton Forge lights and, except the fact you can see they are crooked from the street, they are nice looking.

Three Ellipse pendants were part of the purchase.

Pros:
Gorgeous
Excellent quality materials

Cons:
Made in China. As a subset to made in China, here's many of the issues we ran into.
- The lights were all crooked, from a bit to a lot. All three had to be bent to get them to hang straight. The bends were enough that people glancing from the across the yard could see it.
- The hardware included in the box varies all over the place. Having purchased 8 lights, we were able to beg, borrow and steal from one box or another to get the complement of parts required to mount a fixture.
- The glass is coated on the outside. Perhaps required to obtain the "glow" but very subject to scratches. Be careful when you slide the glass into the light. That's how you will discover if your fixture is straight. If its not, you have a scratch, like we did.

My comment to a prospective buyer is basically if you are planning to have a contractor install these lights, good luck. No one is going to spend the time we did to get them up so they look nice and you will likely end up with what our neighbors have, crooked lights. If you plan to do it yourself, assume an idiot assembled them on poor fixtures. Assume nothing is correct. Take your time.

My comment to Hubbardton Forge: these are expensive lights and typical made in China assembly quality is inexcusable.

I finally got my sink installed about two weeks ago, and I love it. I'm not much of a "sink" person - I don't really notice sinks, never kept my stainless one clean, etc. But, this sink really looks great. I got it to go with my biscotti cabinets and soap stone countertops. It is very deep (my other sink was only ~7" deep) and big - it holds a lot. But, measure very carefully and make sure you check with your plumber and counter installer - this sink was actually too long (back to front) for my standard 24" cabinet. They made it fit, but I only have about 3" in the back for my faucet, and usually you want to have at least 4". Also, you need to be aware of whether a backsplash or window sill will be in the way of your faucet. Another option is to put your faucet off center - to the right or left. If you bump out your sink, you will also have no worries.

I'm not entirely sure how someone with 3-4 years experience working with a simple electronic timer fails to be able to operate it... I installed 3 of these in Wendy's restaurants as part of a power saving initiative. It's probably worth noting the ones I put in had 16 seperate controlled circuits, not 8 as this model does. The total cost of putting the 16 circuit in, which includes tons of delay on makes, wire, high voltage contacts and various other electrical controllers, was nearly $6000. And... it paid for itself in less than a year. I will say this, the instruction manual makes it hard to follow.. it's like reading a different language. However, the technical support staff (ALL IN THE USA!) are incredibly helpful. With just a few minutes on the phone with them this turns from a seemingly impossible to tame beast to an easy to navigate electronic timer. For people who can't grasp the button pushing programming, there is a computer interface card that can be added to allow programming of this timer from a desktop computer with a few mouse clicks and the number pad. All 3 of the timers that I've put in were done in 2007 and are still working great. Never had an issue with any of them! In fact, the only reason I looked this up at all was because one of the locations just changed their hours of operations and I had to reprogram their timer, easy. After that I thought... I wonder how much these are now and here I am.

American Water Heaters provides a 12-year limited warranty on heat exchanger in residential applications, 5-year limited warranty on heat exchanger in commercial applications, and a 5-year warranty on all parts.

Like most gas tankless water heaters, this unit requires a 3/4" gas line. If your desired installation location has a smaller gas line, you will need to upgrade your gas line in order to enjoy the benefits of this water heater.

American GT505PI Indoor Tankless Water Heater, 9.4 GPM - ENERGY STAR® Review

My builder installed this water heater in our new home and it worked perfectly as soon as it was turned on. Factory seatings allow the water temperature to be set up to 120 degrees. We first tried 110 and found it to be a little cool, but 115 seems just right. I am told that it's possible to change some internal jumpers to get as high as 140 degrees, but watch out for local code. The only surprise was the cost of the double wall exhaust pipes. At $550, not including labor, it cost nearly as much as the heater itself for about 15 feet of pipe, with two 45 degree bends, and the external venting cap on the outside wall of the house.

We are on well water, so I had a large whole house filter (10 inch) installed on the input side since I heard that these tankless heaters can get corroded quickly due to minerals in the water. I'll write back in hopefully at least 10 years when I need to replace it ;-)
