I have one of the Amsec BF safes and for HOME USE, regard them as a good safe from both a fire protection standpoint and break-in security.

The description for this item is a little confusing as it mentions both the UL RSC rating and B-rating (or commercial burglary). The Amsec BF safe line carries a "RSC" or Residential Security Container rating. It is NOT a B-rate safe as commonly understood in the industry. A B-rate safe has at least a 1/4" plate steel body and a 1/2" plate steel door. B and C "ratings" are conventions used in the industry, not certifications against a published standard, and there are no standards for them for break-in protection. While there is no regulating body preventing someone calling this a B-rate safe, no serious safe dealer would represent it as such, and the inclusion in the description appears to be a mistake.

The UL RSC rating is different, as it is a certification against a published standard and the rating is given only after the product passes Underwriter's Laboratory's testing. The RSC rating is rather a low standard, however. It boils down to a safe having to withstand only a 5 minute attack. The Amsec BF safes are at the upper end of the quality and safety spectrum among RSC-rated fire safes, though, and it would take a non-knowledgeable thief a lot longer than 5 minutes to break into one.

The Amsec BF safe line has a very good quality, name brand (Sargent and Greenleaf) lock, heavy-duty hinges, a well-built door mechanism, and comes pre-drilled and with hardware to bolt it to the floor. The BF series is one of the best choices available for a home-use fire safe.
